Marcus Auretiius, one of the greatest thinkers in ancient times said “a man’s life is what his thoughts make of it.” Also Ralph Waldo Emerson, believed to be one of the wisest man that ever lived in America, declared, “A man is what he thinks about all day long.” In like manner, a famous psychologist says, “There is a deep tendency in human nature to become precisely like that which he habitually imagine himself to be..”
All these go to confirm God’s word: “For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he…” (Proverbs 23:7). This is one of the greatest laws in the universe, namely, that if you think negative terms, you will get negative results. There are many challenges that confronts the believer: it may be his difficult spouse, wayward children, sickness in the family, financial and material lack in the home, academic, Spiritual etc. These challenges by themselves cannot defeat you or create a state of hopelessness, rather it is your attitude, your mind-set or thoughts about them that can defeat you. If you think positively, you will set in motion positive forces which will bring about positive results. On the contrary, if you think negative thoughts, you will create around you an atmosphere conducive to the development of negative events. If you live in fear worry and anxiety, your life will be influenced negatively.
God has provided the means by which you can change your circumstances for the better. First: you must start thinking differently, Romans 12:2 “And be not conformed to this world, but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”.
Second: Paint a picture in your mind of the circumstances or situations as you would want them to be. Hold that picture, develop it firmly in all details.
Third: Pray about it. There are many promises in the word of God that should encourage you to pray. “And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do…if ye shall ask anything in my name, I will do it” (John 14: 13-14).
Forth: Believe that God has granted you your hearts desire; for God will not give you any lesser blessing than you can believe. “…According to (thats is, in proportion to) your faith be it unto you” (Matthew 9:29).
Fifth: Feed your mind and nourish your thoughts with wholesome words of faith from the scriptures.
Keep the idea of success, achievement, prosperity, fruitfulness, good health, happiness in career, business, home etc. in proper scriptural perspective and focus. Never entertain fear of failure. Should a negative thought of failure filter into your mind, expel it by increasing your meditation and affirmation of God’s promises. The mental vision which you have created and firmly held in your subconscious mind certainly be actualised.
Sixth: Cultivate friendship with positive thinkers and as much as possible avoid arguments. Whenever a negative thought is expressed, counter it with a positive, optimistic statement.
Finally, the scriptures says, “let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts…” (Isaiah 55:7). You are not only to depart from evil but from negative ungodly thinking. The sinner definitely needs to repent of his sins, and forsake such sins, accept Christ as Lord and personal Saviour and live righteously before he/she can think and live positively.
The secret of a better and more successful life is to cast out old unhealthy and negative thoughts and substitute for them new, vital dynamic faith thoughts. I have been putting this into motion in my life over the past recent weeks, and I have seen positive results.
